The Joys of Holiday Guests – Keeping the House Clean (Before and After)

Oh the joys of the holidays.  Seasonal depression, cold weather and family conflict.  No wonder why we look forward to this every year!  But seriously, the holidays are fun for the family, but also stress filled.  This years I’m having several family members over for Christmas break and making sure the house is worthy of visitors is important for me.

Keeping it Clean for the House Guests

Every holiday guest always wants to stay in a clean house. In fact, most guests consider cleanliness while selecting the house they will be staying in. This makes it important to ensure that the house is properly cleaned in preparation for the holiday guests. One of the most important sections that require proper cleaning is the carpet. The reason behind this is that the carpet is one of the most visible and used sections of any house. If the carpet is not clean it can even cause health issues especially to guests with small children who might be playing on the carpet. This makes it paramount to know how to keep the carpet clean and ensure the holiday guests enjoy their time staying in the house.

Christmas is stressful, and keeping a tidy home for houseguests is even moreso, but its easy if you don’t let it pile up.

Since there are various carpet cleaning techniques it is always important to select the technique that is most effective. One of the most popular carpet cleaning methods is using a vacuum cleaner. This is because a good vacuum cleaner can suck even the dirt that is on the inner fibers of the carpet. However, before starting to vacuum a carpet it is advisable to remove debris and other bigger objects which might not be sucked by the vacuum cleaner.

There are also substances and products that can be combined with the vacuum cleaner to ensure the carpet is properly cleaned. Things like shampoo and baking soda help in breaking the dirt and eliminating odor. To ensure the substances used are effective it is advisable to apply them at least thirty minutes prior to vacuuming. If possible they can even be left overnight on the carpet so as to give them time to work. If they are given ample time they will be more effective and the carpet will even be cleaner.

How I Get it Done

If you are really in a rush or don’t want to handle these things by yourself, you can always utilize a service like Fargo Carpet Cleaners (or whomever is in your area), but this is how I do it.  While vacuuming a carpet it is important to consider its size and thickness. If it is relatively thicker then more time will be needed since it will require more emphasis. The size of the carpet also matters because it determines the time one will spend while vacuuming. There are also areas of the carpet that require more emphasis than others such as the places where people keep their feet while seated and the places where people usually walk. By identifying such areas one is able to plan how to do the vacuuming efficiently.

To ensure all areas of the carpet are cleaned properly it is always advisable to subdivide the entire carpet into sections. This helps because one is able to completely clean one section prior to going to the others. It is always advisable to take time while cleaning every section so that all the dirt can be removed properly. This is especially for the carpets which might have more dirt and also for the sections that are more often used.

After cleaning the carpet it is important to maintain it properly so that it can remain clean until the holiday guests arrive. It is advisable to keep children and pets away from the clean carpet because they can put dirt back on the carpet. If possible it is advisable to keep the rooms with the clean carpets locked until the guests arrive. With a clean carpet the house will look clean and the holiday guests will for sure enjoy staying in the house.
